M300: Misguided Medicine

Fall 2021, Spring 2022, Fall 2022

My Role:

Developed and facilitated an online, applied anatomy and physiology course utilizing the medical history podcast Sawbones.

Course Description:

Throughout history, humans have developed some seemingly odd medical cures and procedures. Oftentimes this was caused by a misguided view of the human body and how it worked. In this course students will be learning and/or reviewing anatomy and physiology and applying the concepts by exploring medical history through the podcast Sawbones.

This course is organized around organ systems. Each week will consist of a brief overview of the anatomy and physiology of the system, an open-resource quiz, 1-4 podcast episodes, and a 2-3 page worksheet where students will get to explore a related topic of their choice.

At the end of the course individuals will be able to:

  • Summarize the general structure and function of the human body and its systems

  • Apply anatomical and physiological concepts to understand disease processes and/or treatments

  • Utilize self-directed learning skills to explore a misguided medicine topic in greater depth

  • Compare and contrast current and historical anatomical and physiological knowledge
